Cracking the Education Policy Code
With a focus on a deeper learning experience
through student-centered approaches, NMEF works
to ensure that every student develops a strong
foundation of basic knowledge and the new skills
required by our changing world. Student-centered
approaches create more adaptive learning
opportunities that help students master both the
academic knowledge and the critical thinking,
problem-solving and communication skills they
need to thrive in the future. In order for
student-centered learning approaches to occur,
state policies need to change to allow for
transformative education to take place.
The
International Association for K-12 Online
Learning
(iNACOL) has recently released the paper
Cracking the Code: Synchronizing Policy and
Practice for Performance-Based Learning.
Building on the 2011 Competency-Based
Learning Summit convened by iNACOL and the
Council of Chief School Officers, this paper
examines a state policy framework to enable the
transition to student-centered and
competency-based models of learning.
