Budgets,
whether for your project or entire organization, can and should be used as
a tool to monitor how you are doing financially.
One of
the most significant challenges in preparing a grant proposal is
developing an accurate and appropriate project budget. Non-profit
managers often wonder:
-
What
items can I include?
-
How
much is reasonable to spend on each type of expense?
-
How
do I figure out fringe benefits?
-
How
much overhead can I include?
-
Where
do I reflect other grants for the project?
This
month, we will provide you with a sample budget for Learning More, a
fictional Saturday academic enrichment program in rural New Hampshire.
Using this sample budget, we will answer the above questions and others,
and provide you important suggestions as you develop your project budget.
