initiative promotes the implementation
of student-centered approaches to
provide a more equitable and effective
learning experience in our schools.

Our DLSC initiative focuses grants on
three priority areas:
- Developing practical models for schools to use in implementing new approaches.
- Creating sustainable policy change to support these new approaches.

Current
Activities
Planning and Implementation Grants
DLSC Planning Grants were awarded to
seven school districts to develop a
collaborative plan to transition to
student-centered approaches using the
Foundation’s three-part model. In early
2012, the Foundation will announce four
new multi-year grants that will support
recipients in implementing plans for
student-centered approaches.
Professional Approaches
DLSC: Building a Collaborative Culture
provides funding to three urban
Connecticut school districts to create a
collaborative culture through additional
support of professional development
programs, so that student-centered
approaches can thrive.

The Foundation awarded
DLSC: Building a Collaborative Culture grants to support the
professional development of teachers,
administrators and district leaders in
Danbury, New Haven and Norwalk, CT.
April 2011
The Foundation hosted a Learning
Institute for DLSC grantees, providing
technical assistance and support for
educators, parents, students and
community leaders.
January 2011
Seven organizations and districts were
awarded DLSC Planning Grants to design
strategies for implementing
student-centered approaches to foster
deeper learning for all students.
